Local News: 50 Cent cleared for Canadian concert tour Black Habits Articles Rapper 50 Cent has been granted a temporary resident's permit for Canada, over the objections of a Toronto MP.

MP Dan McTeague had asked Immigration Minister Joe Volpe to deny the artist entry for a Canadian tour scheduled to launch in Vancouver on Dec. 3.

He said 50 Cent's music glorifies gun violence, a message Toronto residents don't want to hear after enduring a string of gang-related shootings this year.

He also expressed concern over shootings that have occurred at 50 Cent's concerts and outside screenings of his biopic, Get Rich or Die Tryin'.

But 50 Cent's lawyer, Ben Trister, says Canadian officials issued a permit in Detroit Tuesday morning.

The hip-hop star, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, must get a special permit because of his criminal record.

Trister says he doesn't believe the immigration minister was involved in the decision to allow 50 Cent into the country.

A number of other artists who are touring with him are still waiting for their temporary resident permits to be granted.

The Canadian tour includes stops in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax and Saint John.
