Local News: ReelWorld Film Festival
Kicks Off With Special Guests at Opening Night Screening And Gala Reception
The 6th Annual ReelWorld Film Festival kicks off with the screening of the opening night film, Kamataki, followed by a gala reception at M Lounge. The screening takes places on Wednesday April 19, 2006 at 7:30pm, and it sponsored by NBC/Universal Canada.
Hosted by MuchMoreMusic Host and MuchMusic VJ Search Expert Panelist Traci Melchor, in attendance will be Kamataki’s director Claude Gagnon and producer, Yuri Yoshimura, as well as ReelWorld Founder Tonya Lee Williams.
The screening takes place at Paramount Toronto, located at 259 Richmond Street West, and is preceded by speeches from Tonya Lee Williams and Claude Gagnon, among others.
Following the screening is the official opening night gala at M Lounge, located at 241 Richmond Street West.
Kamataki is the story of Ken, a Canadian man in his early 20s who has recently dealt with the death of his father. After an unsuccessful suicide attempt, Ken’s mother sends him to Japan to apprentice for his uncle Takuma, who practices the art pottery-making, or Kamataki. Ken initially resents the new life he’s been forced into, but as his interest in his uncle’s work grows, his attitude begins to change and his passion for life is reignited.
Also that night will be the world premiere of Smokin’ Lounge, fashcam’s latest fashion mini-movie starring clothes by Hoax Couture and featuring Canadian music icon Molly Johnson.
ReelWorld Film Festival is Canada’s premiere non-profit film festival dedicated to nurturing, promoting and celebrating the full spectrum of racial and culturally diverse film and video. For the past five years, the Film Festival and Foundation have been instrumental in helping talent of colour achieve success in the entertainment industry.
